Air source heat pumps in Roedean

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. Common call-outs are for no space for a hot water cylinder and an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life, across air-to-water heat pumps, air-to-air heat pumps and radiator systems.

If your home in or near Roedean is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

What the work involves, system by system

Heat loss surveys

The survey works out the heat needed room by room. It’s the basis for sizing the heat pump and the radiators.

Hot water cylinders

An older cylinder may not suit a heat pump, and we explain whether yours can stay.

How we price air source heat pumps

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:

  • The number of rooms, units or zones
  • How easy the units are to reach
  • The pipe route between the units

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier for straight advice and a fixed price.

Before you get in touch

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The address and the type of property
  • The fuse board and where it is in the property
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. Once we have looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To start, ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Roedean: your questions answered

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Roedean?

Roedean is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Will you come out to Roedean?

Yes. Roedean is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Will you make a mess?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.

Homes in Roedean and heat pumps

At about 1 mile from the coast, Roedean is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the coast, we choose the outdoor unit position with salt-laden wind in mind. The last census (2021) found about 70% of households live in flats. A flat may have no room for a hot water cylinder, and the freeholder typically has a say on the outdoor unit, which can tip the choice towards air-to-air.

Royal Pavilion, roughly 1.9 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings. If your home is one of the older properties near St Mark's Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

Roedean is about 2 miles east of Carlton Hill, in Brighton and Hove. Homes and businesses alike in Roedean, we can help with air source heat pumps. We reply to enquiries the same working day, and there’s a 24/7 emergency line. Roedean is one of 30 towns, villages and districts in Brighton and Hove where we work for homes and businesses.

Not far from Roedean, a recent job of ours was on New Road, Brighton (BN1), about 2 miles north-west: installing individual wall-mounted Panasonic units in all 22 guest rooms, plus two cassette units in the restaurant and a dedicated unit for the server room at basement level.

Here we cover the BN2 postcode area. Peel Road, Cliff Road and Henley Road and the roads off them are all inside our area. Other places close to Roedean include Ovingdean (1 mile east), Rottingdean (1 mile east), Saltdean (3 miles east), East Saltdean (3 miles east) and Falmer (3 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Brighton and Hove (4 miles west), Hove (4 miles west), Brunswick (3 miles west) and Seven Dials (3 miles north-west).

Around Roedean

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to St Mary's Hall, Whitehawk Hill and Longhill High School and the streets around them. Roedean’s nearest station is Brighton station, about 2.2 miles north-west of the centre. A little further out are French Convalescent Home (0.5 miles west) and Churchill Square (2.3 miles west). Open spaces near Roedean include Whitehawk Hill and Newmarket Hill.

What we do, step by step

Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. On site, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. A few photos help us make the most of a visit to Roedean.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

How to get a quote

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

For landlords and property managers

For anyone managing more than one building, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Every address has its own paperwork, so each one has its own history.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.

What a customer said

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
