Need air source heat pumps in Redbridge?

Signs you need air source heat pumps in Redbridge

For homes with no mains gas, heated by oil or LPG, a heat pump is well worth considering. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes an extra £1,500, until March 2027, for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas where the home is eligible.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Finding a place for the outdoor unit
  • Questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Moving away from fossil-fuel heating

For a home near Redbridge station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.

What your quote should include

  • What paperwork you’ll receive afterwards
  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Whether the quote is a fixed price

About our air source heat pumps in Redbridge

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. The work covers underfloor heating, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and hot water cylinders, and common reasons people get in touch are deciding on the outdoor unit position and working out whether radiators need upsizing.

If your home in or near Redbridge is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Heat pumps in Redbridge: local notes

Redbridge is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so a heat pump near the sea needs a sensible position and regular checks, and some models offer corrosion protection for coastal sites. Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 75% of homes in Redbridge and the neighbourhoods around it to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and the last census (2021) found about 49% of households live in flats. Homes of that age often have cavity walls that may or may not be insulated, which the survey checks. In flats, space for an outdoor unit and a cylinder can be limited, and the lease and freeholder come into it, so air-to-air is sometimes the better fit.

Southampton Tudor House and Garden lies about 3.3 miles south-east. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.

Redbridge is about 1 mile east of Totton, in Southampton. There’s also a page for Guildford, about 45 miles away.

Work in SO40, SO16 and SO15 follows the same survey, fixed-price quote and written records as everywhere else we cover. The M271 serve Redbridge, which keeps journeys to surveys and visits simple. Before you call an engineer

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

Redbridge: your questions answered

Is a heat pump in Redbridge permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The half-mile around the middle of Redbridge holds about 13 listed buildings and structures. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Redbridge, typically Southampton council).

Is Redbridge within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Will you make a mess?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

Are you F-Gas certified?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling, and we help you choose. We install both types.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

Expect it to take a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. How much of the heating changes decides most of the time and the timing is set out with your quote.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. For a place like Redbridge, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
