Air source heat pumps across Queen's Bower

Air source heat pumps in Queen's Bower

Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes, and the quote sets it out. The work covers hot water cylinders, air-to-air heat pumps and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, and the jobs we see most are choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and working out whether radiators need upsizing.

Homes around Queen's Bower usually have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

What a heat pump looks like in Queen's Bower

Queen's Bower is within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so a heat pump near the sea needs a sensible position and regular checks, and some models offer corrosion protection for coastal sites. The last census (2021) found about 83% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

If your home is one of the older properties near All Saints' Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Haseley Manor, roughly 1.5 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings.

Queen's Bower is about 5 miles south of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Whether you’re in the middle of Queen's Bower or further out, we cover air source heat pumps, from a single room to a whole building. We cover 125 places across the Isle of Wight, large and small. We also work in Worthing, around 37 miles away.

Our working area takes in PO36. We also cover the places around Queen's Bower: Skinner's Hill (1 mile north-west), Alverstone Garden Village (1 mile north-east), Alverstone (1 mile north-east), Lake (1 mile south-east) and Sandown (1 mile east). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (5 miles north-west), Ryde (5 miles north), Cowes (8 miles north-west) and Ventnor (4 miles south). For island and remote properties, the visit takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Only one grant is available per property, and it cannot replace a low-carbon system. Hybrids are excluded.

Heat loss surveys

Without a proper survey, a heat pump can be too big or too small and that matters for comfort and running.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Queen's Bower so we arrive with what’s needed.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Clear access to the fuse board

Getting a quote

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Questions from Queen's Bower

Will a heat pump in Queen's Bower need planning permission?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. Central Queen's Bower sits inside a conservation area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Queen's Bower, usually Isle of Wight council).

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Queen's Bower?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Queen's Bower, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for problems that can’t wait for a planned visit. Call 07833 053749 and tell us what’s happened.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water heats radiators or underfloor heating and hot water; air-to-air heats rooms through indoor units and can cool them. Air-to-air does not heat hot water, and we explain which suits your home.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Honest limits

Air source heat pumps cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Tax advice on your own circumstances
  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Radiator systems

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • The size of the job
  • The pipe route between the units
  • A single visit or a regular plan

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Your installation or service records
  • The make and model of the system, from the label
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error

To get a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the property and what you need. A few pictures make it quicker. You will hear back from us the same working day.
