What a heat pump looks like in Potters Corner
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 56% of homes in and around Potters Corner were built in 2000 or later. Newer homes normally lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well.
Historic houses such as Godinton House, about 1.2 miles south-west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Potters Corner
We install air source heat pumps in Potters Corner and across Kent, and we’re MCS certified. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. We are often asked to deal with plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump and choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air, on air-to-water heat pumps, air-to-air heat pumps and hot water cylinders.
Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Potters Corner, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

How the visit works
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Somewhere like Potters Corner, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.
- It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
How to get a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Aftercare tips
To keep the system working properly:
- Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
- Keep up with insulation and draught-proofing
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
Should you have questions after the install, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll look into it. Annual servicing helps keep the system working well.
Don’t cover radiators with furniture or heavy curtains, as the system relies on them giving out heat.

Questions from Potters Corner
Can I fit a heat pump in Potters Corner without planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The centre of Potters Corner is in a conservation area. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with Ashford council, which is usually the planning authority for Potters Corner.
Is Potters Corner within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
When will I hear back?
On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
What’s the price of a heat pump installation?
An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before the grant. Eligible homes in England and Wales can get £7,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme though not every home qualifies.
Will you make a mess?
Protection goes down first: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards when we finish.
How much time does a heat pump install need?
A typical installation takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.
System by system
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Only one grant is available per property, and it cannot replace a low-carbon system, and hybrid systems are not eligible.
Air-to-air heat pumps
Air-to-air heat pumps are now covered by permitted development rules in England, subject to conditions. Cooling-only units are not included, so check with the council.
What owners can safely do
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
