About air conditioning in TN26

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, multi-split systems and ceiling cassettes, and the jobs we see most are fans and portables that don’t keep up and bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Air conditioning around TN26

Across TN26, from Ashford, Hamstreet and Bethersden to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.

Hamstreet: Older streets near Church of the Good Shepherd may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. If you commute from Ham Street station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Different systems, different jobs

Outdoor unit positions

On flats and terraced houses, space outside is often the deciding factor. Every option is checked on the survey, and tell you about any permissions you may need.

Multi-split systems

A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit. It’s a neat answer when space outside is limited and several rooms need it and each indoor unit has its own controls.

Why it fails

Some people come to us for heating rather than cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, which means more heat out than electricity in. That’s how most modern split systems work.

Any of these is worth a proper look:

  • Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
  • Fans and portables that don’t keep up
  • Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
  • Central heating repairs
  • Draughts and missing insulation

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly:

  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need
  • Never run the system with the filters out
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Book an annual service

Commissioning is the last stage: every mode is tested before we go. We check it’s running as the manufacturer intends, then show you the controls and the timer, so you’re confident using it.

Report drips, noises or error codes early. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display usually means something needs attention and catching it early keeps the repair small.

TN26 questions

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

In most cases, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
