Air conditioning across TW10: what to expect
Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. Common call-outs are for working from home in a room that gets too warm and not knowing which system, size or brand to choose, on ducted systems, ceiling cassettes and wall-mounted split systems.
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
Pricing in TW10
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are unsure, phone 07833 053749 and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Ham: Ham House, about 0.6 miles north, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. Living close to Ham Christian Centre? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.
Looking after your system
How well a system lasts depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
- Avoid setting it far colder than you need
- Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
We clear up before we go: dust sheets lifted, offcuts and packaging cleared, and the holes for the pipework sealed. Outside, the pipework is neatly fixed and protected as agreed on the survey.
Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, which costs you more to run.
Why it fails
Computers, screens, lighting and people all give off heat. A home office with a couple of screens, or a meeting room with a few people in it, warms up quickly, even when it isn’t especially hot outside.
Customers usually contact us after spotting one of these:
- Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
- An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- Expensive direct electric heating
System by system
Ceiling cassettes
A cassette sits flush in a suspended ceiling and spreads air in several directions and they’re a common choice for offices, shops and larger rooms.
Wall-mounted split systems
Wall-mounted units suit bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and small commercial rooms. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access, and away from where the air would blow straight onto people.
What owners can safely do
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
FAQs for TW10
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do I need planning permission?
Sometimes. The rules differ for heat pumps and cooling-only air conditioning, and for houses, flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We flag anything that may need permission when we survey and the council makes the decision. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which brands do you work with?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
