How air conditioning works in TN8

We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. We’re often asked to deal with not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and expensive direct electric heating, on air-to-air heat pumps, ceiling cassettes and multi-split systems.

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

What you’ll pay

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call 07833 053749 or send an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to The White Horse Inn, Church of St Peter and St Paul and Edenbridge Primary School, among other places. Air conditioning around TN8

In TN8, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.

Message us from anywhere in TN8 and you will hear back the same working day. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead.

Edenbridge: If you commute from Edenbridge Town station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed. If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Safe owner checks

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Common problems we fix in TN8

Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, which is why a loft bedroom can still be warm at bedtime.

Look out for these signs:

  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
  • An old system that needs replacing
  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff

Different systems, different jobs

Multi-split systems

Indoor units on a multi-split do not all have to look the same: a wall unit in one room, a ducted or floor unit in another, depending on the model. We plan the mix on the survey.

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Tell us if the unit starts to leak, rattle or show a code
  • Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
  • File the paperwork with the manual
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit

Questions after the installation go to the same number. Let us know what’s happening and any error code and we will help you sort it out.

Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault and catching it early keeps the repair small.

Questions from TN8

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

How do you size the system?

We size each room on the survey, from its size, glazing, orientation and use. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy, so we explain why we’ve chosen a particular output.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and F-Gas documentation included. The price is fixed before we start.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
