Air conditioning in ME2

We cover every part of the ME2 postcode district, which takes in Rochester, Strood and Frindsbury. Every job starts with a site survey and a fixed-price quote.

Our air conditioning service in ME2

Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. Typical jobs include expensive direct electric heating and bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer, on multi-split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and VRF systems.

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Around Rochester

In Rochester, that means homes and buildings near Royal Crown Hotel, Rochester Riverside Church of England Primary School and Church of St Nicholas and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Fort Pitt Grammar School (1 mile south-east), Broomhill Park (1 mile north-west), Former Ordnance Store At Chatham Gun Wharf (1.2 miles east) and Temple School (1.2 miles north). Rochester has its own railway station: Rochester station. Other landmarks nearby include Rochester Castle (less than half a mile east) and Huguenot Museum (under half a mile east). Green spaces nearby include Gad's Hill and Rede Common.

Where we install in ME2

Our air conditioning work across ME2 takes in places such as Rochester, Strood and Rochester Riverside and the smaller places around them. Every place on our ME2 list (15 in all) is covered.

Enquiries from ME2 get a reply on the working day they arrive. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead. ME2 includes coastal places, where salt in the air speeds up corrosion of outdoor coils and fixings. Outdoor unit position and regular servicing both help near the sea.

Rochester: Homes near Church of St Nicholas are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. If you work from home near Rochester station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

What affects the quote in ME2

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • What state the existing equipment is in
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • The pipe route between the units
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form for straight advice and a fixed price.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The fuse board and where it is in the property
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error

Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

System by system

Wall-mounted split systems

Single-room split systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Long pipe runs, difficult access and a new circuit affect where your job sits in the range.

Ducted systems

A ducted system needs a ceiling void or loft deep enough for the unit and ducts, and access for servicing. The survey confirms whether there’s room.

Why deal with it now?

Size matters more than brand. Too small, and it runs flat out without catching up; too big, and it switches on and off and wastes energy. Getting the sizing right at the survey stage avoids both problems.

Comparing quotes

  • If the figure could change on the day
  • The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
  • Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
  • Whether they looked at the job before pricing it

Looking after it afterwards

Simple habits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Never run the system with the filters out
  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together

An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We’ll remind you when it’s due, so it does not get forgotten.

Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault and catching it early keeps the repair small.

Your questions about air conditioning in ME2

Will you make a mess?

Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.

Which accreditations do you hold?

F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

Often, yes, but there are extra steps. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Typically, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?

It depends on the system and the property. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, so check with the council. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.
