What air source heat pumps cannot fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

If in doubt, ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Air source heat pumps in Woodlands

Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. The work covers air-to-water heat pumps, hot water cylinders and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, and people most often call us about an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump.

If your home in or near Woodlands is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer and it’s worth keeping safe.

Questions from Woodlands

Is a heat pump in Woodlands permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Forest North East Conservation Area is close to the centre of Woodlands. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask New Forest council, which is usually the planning authority for Woodlands.

Will you come out to Woodlands?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

What warranty do I get?

It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

What happens if it’s left?

Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air is easier with the facts. Air-to-water heats radiators and hot water, and can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions. We explain which makes sense for you. Getting the date in early helps for a place like Woodlands.

No two properties are the same, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.

How it works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Woodlands.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. We install, commission and register the system under MCS.

How to prepare

  • Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property

Getting a price

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone us on 07833 053749.

What a heat pump looks like in Woodlands

Census 2021 figures found about 90% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler. If your home is near Ashurst New Forest station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.

What affects the quote in Woodlands

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered and we’ll price it together.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go

Want a quote for air source heat pumps? Please phone us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and tell us about the job. We will talk you through the options and give you a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.
