Air source heat pumps across Waddon

About our air source heat pumps in Waddon

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home, using electricity to drive the process. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. Typical jobs include radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and deciding on the outdoor unit position, across air-to-water heat pumps, radiator systems and air-to-air heat pumps.

For flats in Waddon, the lease, the freeholder and the rules for flats all come into it. Permitted development limits are different for flats, and we check before designing.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler, so keep it safe.

Homes in Waddon and heat pumps

The 2021 Census found about 58% of households live in flats. For flats, the first questions are where an outdoor unit could go, whether a cylinder fits and what the lease allows. In London, outside space and the rules for flats often decide which kind of heat pump suits.

For a home near Waddon station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better. Period properties close to Church of St George can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Waddon is about 1 mile west of Croydon, in Greater London. Across the CR0 area, our engineers can take on air source heat pumps. Across Greater London, we cover 764 places, and Waddon is one of them.

The closest recent job we can point to from Waddon was on George Street, Croydon (CR0), about 1 mile east: installing three Daikin cassette units in the main working area and a wall-mounted unit in the private meeting room.

That includes properties on Abbey Road, Alton Road and Epsom Road and nearby roads. Our working area takes in CR0, CR2 and SM6. We also cover the places around Waddon: Old Town (1 mile north-east), Bandonhill (1 mile west), Beddington (1 mile north-west), Russell Hill (1 mile south-west) and Roundshaw (1 mile south-west). Waddon questions

Is the heat pump grant available in Waddon?

Waddon is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Waddon?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Around 5 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Waddon. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Waddon, normally Croydon council) first.

Will you make a mess?

We start with protection: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

What’s the price of a heat pump installation?

Air-to-water work is in the £8,000–£16,000 range (0% VAT on homes), with any grant still to come off. The heat pump size, radiator changes and the cylinder decide where in that range you are. Air-to-air is priced after a survey.

Do you cover Waddon?

Yes. Waddon is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover. We are based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

A typical installation takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We plan the work so you are without heating for as little time as possible, and we explain it in advance.

When it’s something else

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

If you’re not sure, just call us on 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

How the visit works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A few pictures of the room, the outside wall and the fuse board help us plan a job in Waddon.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the paperwork can go to both.

Why act early in Waddon

For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. If that applies to you, it’s worth asking about sooner rather than later. Allow time for any approvals your building in Waddon needs.

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
