Air source heat pumps in Sandwich, done properly
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Sandwich and the rest of Kent. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. Common call-outs are for no space for a hot water cylinder and an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life, on hot water cylinders, underfloor heating and air-to-water heat pumps.
If your home near Sandwich has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

What happens on the day
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Everything the job in Sandwich needs is worked out beforehand.
- You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
How to prepare
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
Getting a price
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Advice
Common problems we fix in Sandwich
Some homes heated by electric heaters or storage heaters consider a heat pump instead. A survey shows whether a heat pump suits the property and what would need to change along with whether any grant could apply.
Common reasons people call us are:
- Finding a place for the outdoor unit
- An oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life
- Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air
If your home is one of the older properties near Sandwich United Reformed Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.
What your quote should include
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- What paperwork you will receive afterwards
- Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
Aftercare tips
So the system stays in good health:
- Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Look at insulation alongside the heat pump
Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. Keep it with the manufacturer’s paperwork, as you may need it later.
Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order because it reduces the heat the system needs to supply.
Let and managed properties
Bigger systems bring extra duties: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
If you look after several properties, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so the files stay tidy.

Common questions in Sandwich
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Sandwich?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Sandwich is in England, where it applies. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Do you cover smaller places like Sandwich?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we are happy to show ours.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?
Air-to-water replaces the boiler for heating and hot water, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.
What accreditations do you have?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we’re an F-Gas certified company. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Homes in Sandwich and heat pumps
At about 3 miles from the coast, Sandwich is close enough for sea air to matter. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. The centre of Sandwich lies within a conservation area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 440 within half a mile of the centre, such as Church of St Peter (grade I). For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the planning team at Dover council, which normally handles Sandwich where needed. The 2021 Census found about 66% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Homeowners near Sandwich station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that.

From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
