Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Preston
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers which means some radiators may need upsizing. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes and anything that needs changing is in the quote. We’re often asked to deal with checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, across air-to-air heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps and hot water cylinders.
Cottages and older homes near Preston can lose heat faster, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

What air conditioning won’t do
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It won’t put right:
- A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
- Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll say what we think.

FAQs for Preston
Does sea air affect air conditioning in Preston?
It can. Preston is within about 2 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Preston?
Preston is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?
Many installations on houses in England fall under permitted development, subject to the rules. Listed buildings are excluded, and listed building consent is separate, so we check for your property.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?
Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. We install both types.
How soon will you get back to me?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
The process
Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. The visit takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Everything the job in Preston needs is worked out beforehand.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
How to get a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
Advice
Why it’s worth doing now in Preston
A heat pump sized without a proper heat loss survey can struggle in cold weather or run inefficiently. A room-by-room survey gets it right first time. Small faults tend to grow, so it’s worth dealing with them early.
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Heat pumps in Preston: local notes
Preston is within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so a heat pump near the sea needs a sensible position and regular checks, and some models offer corrosion protection for coastal sites. About 54% of homes in and around Preston were built before 1919, according to VOA council tax data. Period properties can still suit a heat pump, but the design has to start from accurate heat loss figures. The middle of Preston is part of the Preston Park Conservation Area. 4 conservation areas lie within a mile of central Preston. On the National Heritage List, around 21 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Preston; Church of St John the Evangelist (grade II) is one. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (normally Brighton and Hove council).
Live in one of the older houses around St John the Evangelist's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. Historic houses such as Preston Manor & Gardens, about 0.2 miles south, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We can quote either party and send the records to whoever needs them.
