Loose questions

Is Loose within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Loose?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Loose is in England, where it applies. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. We install both types.

How soon will you get back to me?

You’ll hear from us the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

A typical installation takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We plan the work so you are without heating for as little time as possible and agreed before any work starts.

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Loose

A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home; adding it alongside a boiler does not qualify. We’re often asked to deal with ageing boilers that will need replacing and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, on air-to-air heat pumps, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.

Homes around Loose normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly:

  • Use the settings explained at handover
  • Book a yearly service
  • File the MCS certificate safely

After commissioning, the installation is registered under MCS and you receive the certificate. Keep it with the manufacturer’s paperwork for future reference.

Don’t cover radiators with furniture or heavy curtains so the heat can get into the room.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.

How it works

Every visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, protect the area, carry out the job, check the system and explain it all to you. On site, the work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Loose.

  1. We start with your plans and the property.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Owner checks or an engineer?

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

What a heat pump looks like in Loose

The Loose Valley Conservation Area lies close to the centre of Loose, within about a third of a mile. Draw a one-mile circle round the middle of Loose and it takes in 3 conservation areas. Church of All Saints, listed at grade II*, is one of roughly 44 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Loose’s centre. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? About 77% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Live in one of the older houses around Church of All Saints? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. Historic houses such as Stoneacre, about 2.8 miles east, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.
