Air con installation in ME15

About air conditioning in ME15

Across ME15, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. The work covers VRF systems, air-to-air heat pumps and multi-split systems, and people most often call us about a loft conversion that’s too warm to use and too many options and no clear advice.

We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

What you will pay

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.

Getting a price

Every quote starts with a look at the job, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

What’s near Maidstone

Around Maidstone, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Paper Makers Arms, Maidstone Grammar School and St Philip's Church, among other places. You will also find River Len LNR (less than half a mile north-east), South Borough Primary School (less than half a mile south) and St Augustine Academy (1.2 miles west). For rail, the closest station is Maidstone West station, roughly 0.6 miles north-west of the centre. A little further out are Maidstone Carriage Museum (less than half a mile north-west) and Oakwood Hospital (1.8 miles west). For a walk, there’s Burham Down and Boxley Hills.

Air conditioning around ME15

In ME15, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

ME15 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Maidstone: If your home is in one of the older streets near St Philip's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. With historic houses such as Stoneacre about 2.4 miles south-east, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

What air conditioning cannot fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

Safe owner checks

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Leave it or put it right?

For homeowners, timing can matter for VAT: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts, so we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
  • Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
  • Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications

Common problems we fix in ME15

Some people come to us for heating rather than cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. Most modern split systems work this way.

Customers typically contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
  • A study or office that overheats during the day
  • Expensive direct electric heating
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer

Your questions about air conditioning in ME15

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do you cover ME15?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, ME15 included.

Which type of system should I choose?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are normally heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
