Air source heat pumps for Guilton

Air source heat pumps in Guilton, done properly

Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. If you have a combi boiler and no cylinder, the survey looks at where one could go. Air-to-air systems don’t heat hot water, so you will need another way to do that. If the problem is not knowing whether a grant applies and working out where a cylinder could go, we can sort it out.

Homes around Guilton usually have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Looking after your system

Looking after it is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover
  • Keep the outdoor unit clear all year
  • Don’t block radiators or indoor units with furniture

In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit runs a defrost cycle from time to time. You might see steam or hear the unit change note and it’s part of how the system works.

Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

Homes in Guilton and heat pumps

Valuation Office Agency council tax records put about 37% of homes in the Guilton area before 1919, and about 78% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). In older homes, the heat loss calculation is especially important, as solid walls and draughts change the size of heat pump needed. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder. The centre of Guilton lies within a conservation area. About 46 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Guilton, Church of St Nicholas (grade I) among them. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where needed, we check with the planning team at Dover council, which normally handles Guilton.

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Nicholas, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. With Goodnestone Park about 3 miles south-west, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

How the visit works

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. If a lane or gateway near Guilton is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Preparing for the visit

FAQs for Guilton

Is the heat pump grant available in Guilton?

Guilton is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Will you come out to Guilton?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?

We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. The survey lets us set a firm programme, so ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line to arrange one.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in Guilton and across Kent. Let us know who the records should go to.

What warranty do I get?

It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.

Is a heat pump permitted development?

In England, many air source heat pumps on houses can be permitted development, if the conditions are met. The outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less, comply with MCS 020(a), not be cooling-only and not be within a listed building’s curtilage.

Pricing air source heat pumps in Guilton

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:

  • Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • The brand, model and parts involved

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed price.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, with the rate that applies to your job. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. To get one, phone 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Before you call an engineer

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
