Air source heat pumps around Cheapside
Central Cheapside is inside a conservation area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 9 within half a mile of the centre, such as Silwood Park Farmhouse (grade II). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 30% of homes in the Cheapside area were built in 2000 or later, and about 66% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Newer homes typically lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
With St Leonard's Hill about 3.4 miles north, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Michael and All Angels? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

About our air source heat pumps in Cheapside
A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. The work covers radiator systems, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating, and the jobs we see most are wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant.
In a place like Cheapside, some homes are listed, and permitted development does not cover listed buildings, so we check consent first.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. File it with the manual, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Rented and managed buildings
From a single flat to a whole estate, the approach is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed-price quote.
What happens if it’s left?
Getting the sizing wrong causes problems that are hard to fix later. Doing the survey properly from the start avoids that. Getting the date in early helps for a place like Cheapside.
Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.
Why us?
- NICEIC approved electrical contractors
- Diagnosis first, then a fixed price
- We reply to enquiries the same working day

Cheapside: your questions answered
Will you come out to Cheapside?
Yes. Cheapside is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Cheapside?
Cheapside is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?
Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. Air-to-air doesn’t heat hot water, and we explain which suits your home.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
What accreditations do you have?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
Honest limits
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
- Formal advice on VAT for your situation
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
If in doubt, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will say what we think.
What we work on in Cheapside

- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Radiator systems
- Underfloor heating
The process
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. A few pictures help us make the most of a visit to Cheapside.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
- The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
Getting a price
Quotes do not take long. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
