Air source heat pumps across Blacknest

Blacknest: your questions answered

Will you come out to Blacknest?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Is the heat pump grant available in Blacknest?

Blacknest is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. Then you get a fixed-price quote.

What does an air-to-water heat pump cost?

Air-to-water systems are £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before any grant. The final price depends on the heat loss survey, the radiators and the cylinder, and you get a fixed-price quote.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Do you work on all makes?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. You get a written record of every visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Blacknest

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside, using electricity to drive the process. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both and the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Typical jobs include comparing heat pump types and ageing boilers that will need replacing, across radiator systems, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.

For a home around Blacknest that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.

Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Why deal with it now?

For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. If that applies to you, it’s worth asking about sooner rather than later. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are unsure, phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

What owners can safely do

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Different systems, different jobs

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

There’s one grant per property, and you can’t get a grant to replace a low-carbon system, and hybrid systems are not eligible.

Air-to-water heat pumps

Air-to-water systems take heat from the air and put it into your central heating and hot water. It takes over from the boiler, and is MCS certified when we install it.

How it works

Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Blacknest.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Air source heat pumps in Blacknest: the local picture

Central Blacknest is inside a conservation area. Peach Cottage, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 10 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Blacknest’s centre. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? VOA council tax data show about 30% of homes in and around Blacknest were built in 2000 or later, and the last census (2021) found about 66% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

St Leonard's Hill lies about 4.2 miles north. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. If your home is one of the older properties near Holy Trinity Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.
