Air source heat pumps in Bridge
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. If you have a combi boiler and no cylinder, the survey looks at where one could go. Air-to-air systems don’t heat hot water, so you’ll need another way to do that. If the problem is working out whether radiators need upsizing and planning and permitted development questions, we can sort it out.
Older and listed homes in villages like Bridge need extra care, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Bridge.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.
How to prepare
- Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
Records are where property maintenance often slips. Every visit is written up, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.
What we’re called out for in Bridge
Homes off the gas grid, heated by oil or LPG, are often good candidates to look at. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes an extra £1,500, until March 2027, for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas, subject to the scheme rules.
Customers typically contact us when they notice something like this:
- Checking emitters for a heat pump
- Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
- Deciding on the outdoor unit position
With Goodnestone Park about 4.4 miles east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

- Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
Bridge questions
Will a heat pump in Bridge need planning permission?
It depends on the property. Central Bridge is a short walk from the Bridge Conservation Area. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Bridge, typically Canterbury City council).
Do you cover smaller places like Bridge?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
We find out during the survey. Rooms where the radiator is big enough stay as they are and any changes are in the quote.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
How does the warranty work?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some brands make regular servicing a condition, so keep your service records.
Homes in Bridge and heat pumps
The 2021 Census found about 79% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Peter, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

After we’ve gone
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Seal draughts where you can
- Keep to regular servicing
- Ask about the grant before you commit
Handover includes the controls and how to get the best from a heat pump. Steady running suits a heat pump better than switching on and off, and we will explain the settings for your home.
Leave space around the outdoor unit. It needs good airflow to collect heat from outside, so keep it clear all year.
