How the job changes from property to property
Air-to-air heat pumps
Since 2025, air-to-air heat pumps can also be permitted development in England, subject to the conditions. A unit used solely for cooling is not covered, so check with the council.
VAT on heat pumps
For air-to-air systems, HMRC’s view depends on the product and the situation and the VAT is confirmed on your quote.
How we handle air source heat pumps in Brading
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes and anything that needs changing is in the quote. If you are dealing with an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, we can sort it out.
In a place like Brading, some homes are listed, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Questions from Brading
Can I fit a heat pump in Brading without planning permission?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. A conservation area takes in the middle of Brading. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where necessary, we check with the local planning authority (for Brading, normally Isle of Wight council).
Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Brading?
It can. Brading is within about 2 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
Do you work on all makes?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
When it’s something else
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Formal advice on VAT for your situation
- Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll say what we think.
What the work covers
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Underfloor heating
- Hot water cylinders
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Radiator systems
What a heat pump looks like in Brading
At about 2 miles from the coast, Brading is close enough for sea air to matter. For a heat pump near the sea, ask about any coastal protection option the manufacturer offers.
Live in one of the older houses around St. Mary's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. For a home near Brading station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.

What else we do in Brading
Leave it or put it right?
From 1 April 2027, VAT on heat pumps in homes rises from 0% to 5%. It’s a date to bear in mind when planning, though the right time also depends on your home and heating. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.
Why us?
- Covering London and the South East
- A fixed price before any work starts
- Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba and more
- MCS certification for heat pump work
What happens on the day
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Brading easier.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
Getting ready for the visit
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Keep pets and children away from the work area
