Cooling for Hove businesses

The coast is only about 1 mile from Hove. Salt air shortens the life of unprotected outdoor coils, so coastal commercial systems need the right kit and regular servicing. Food Standards Agency records list about 382 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens, about 26 hotels and guest houses and about 38 schools and colleges within about 1.5 miles of central Hove. Many of those sites need air conditioning that is sized for long hours and maintained on a schedule. The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures put about 62% of homes in Hove and the neighbourhoods around it before 1919, and about 78% of households live in flats, according to the 2021 Census. Where shops and offices sit below or beside homes, outdoor plant position and noise need extra care.

Churches and halls such as Holy Trinity Church are often used a few hours at a time, which suits a system that heats or cools a space quickly, once consents are in place.

Commercial air conditioning in Hove

Installation is only the start. A maintenance contract keeps servicing and leak checks on schedule, with the records kept up to date with the cost agreed up front. Our 24/7 emergency line is there if something goes wrong. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, ceiling cassettes and ducted systems, and people most often call us about fit-outs and refurbishments that need new air conditioning and work raised by a TM44 inspection.

For a business in Hove, we fit around opening hours, often over a weekend or a few evenings.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. File it with the manual, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings in Hove and across Brighton and Hove. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we’re happy to deal with whoever it is.

What the work involves, system by system

Shops and restaurants

For a discreet finish, ducted systems and cassettes are popular.

Ceiling cassettes

Cassettes sit in the ceiling and blow air in several directions. They suit open-plan offices, shops and restaurants where there’s a ceiling void.

Common problems we fix in Hove

The GB phase-down is reducing HFC supply, so refrigerants like R410A are getting scarcer and dearer for top-ups. Servicing and repairing R410A systems is still allowed though it’s worth bearing in mind when planning ahead.

Customers usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • New tenancies needing cooling and heating
  • Ageing air conditioning that keeps breaking down
  • Older systems on refrigerants that are getting scarcer

If you run a surgery, clinic or pharmacy in the area around Montefiore Hospital, about 0.7 miles east, cleanable, quiet units and regular maintenance matter.

Questions to ask before you book

How it works

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from a day or two for a small office to several weeks of phased work on a large building. Three things shape a visit in Hove: parking, access to the outside of the building and when suits you.

  1. First comes a site survey of the building, its occupancy and the heat it has to deal with.
  2. We send a fixed-price quote showing the system, the unit positions and how the work will be phased.
  3. Installation is scheduled to fit the business, with out-of-hours and phased work where necessary.
  4. We fit the units, run and test the pipework, connect the condensate and wire in the controls.
  5. The system is commissioned and you receive the F-gas records, handover notes and manufacturer paperwork.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in

Get a fixed-price quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

FAQs for Hove

Is air conditioning in Hove permitted development?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Cliftonville Conservation Area is close to the centre of Hove. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and is not used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask Brighton and Hove council, which is typically the planning authority for Hove.

Does being near the sea make a difference to commercial air conditioning in Hove?

It can, as Hove is within about 1 mile of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Can you work around our opening hours?

Yes, the programme is built around the site. Shops, offices, restaurants and schools all have different needs and the plan reflects it.

Do you provide ongoing maintenance for businesses?

Yes. With a contract, servicing and F-gas checks happen on time, with records kept for each visit.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
