Air source heat pumps near Way

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Way

For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers a £7,500 grant towards an eligible air-to-water installation and the installer makes the application. Not every home qualifies, so we check eligibility before you commit. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, radiator systems and hot water cylinders, and common reasons people get in touch are choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump.

For a home around Way that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly:

  • Ask about the grant before you commit
  • Leave indoor units unobstructed
  • Keep the MCS certificate with the manufacturer’s paperwork

In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit runs a defrost cycle from time to time. You might see steam or hear the unit change note, and that is normal.

Book a service every year. Your manufacturer’s warranty terms may say something about servicing.

Way: your questions answered

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Way?

Way is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Does being near the sea make a difference to air source heat pumps in Way?

It can. Way is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

How does the warranty work?

The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for problems that cannot wait for a planned visit. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

What happens on the day

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done. Visits to Way are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
  2. We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Getting a quote

Quotes do not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits you.

How the job changes from property to property

Air-to-air heat pumps

Since 2025, air-to-air heat pumps can also be permitted development in England, subject to the conditions. Cooling-only units are not included and need a check with the council.

Outdoor unit position and planning

Permitted development conditions in England include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), and use for more than cooling alone. It cannot be within the curtilage of a listed building.

Heat pumps in Way: local notes

At about 3 miles from the coast, Way is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the coast, we choose the outdoor unit position with salt-laden wind in mind. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 4 within half a mile of the centre, such as Wayborough Manor (grade II*). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? About 33% of homes in Way and the neighbourhoods around it have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data, and about 65% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. If you live near Minster station, the survey compares air-to-water and air-to-air for your home before anything is quoted.
