Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Orlestone
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. The work covers underfloor heating, air-to-water heat pumps and air-to-air heat pumps, and people most often call us about questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant.
If your home in or near Orlestone is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

For landlords and property managers
Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed-price quote.

FAQs for Orlestone
Do you cover smaller places like Orlestone?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Orlestone?
Orlestone is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?
Often not in England, as many heat pumps on houses are permitted development provided the conditions are met. The outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less, comply with MCS 020(a), not be cooling-only and not be within a listed building’s curtilage.
How much does an air source heat pump cost?
Expect £8,000–£16,000 for an air-to-water system, with 0% VAT on homes, before the grant is taken off. Where you land depends on the size of heat pump, any radiators that need changing and the hot water cylinder, and air-to-air systems are priced after a survey.
What accreditations do you have?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
What warranty do I get?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
What affects the cost of air source heat pumps
Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- The number of rooms, units or zones
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.
Before you get in touch
You don’t need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- Your installation or service records
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, call us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.
What happens on the day
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A few photos help us make the most of a visit to Orlestone.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
Getting a quote
To get a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 and tell us about the property and what you need. A few pictures make it quicker. You’ll hear back from us the same working day.

Homes in Orlestone and heat pumps
The middle of Orlestone is part of a conservation area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 4 within half a mile of the centre, such as Court Lodge (grade II*). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the local planning authority (typically Ashford council) before the heat pump design is finished. About 38% of homes in the Orlestone area have been built since 2000, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 60% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Newer homes normally lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
Older homes near Church of St Mary the Virgin may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. If you live near Ham Street station, the survey compares air-to-water and air-to-air for your home before anything is quoted.
Orlestone is about 4 miles south of Ashford, in Kent. Orlestone gets the same approach as every job we take on: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we’ve finished. Not far from Orlestone, a recent job of ours was on Mermaid Street, Rye (TN31), about 10 miles south-west: installing three Fujitsu wall-mounted units in guest bedrooms, with the outdoor units positioned in the hotel’s walled rear garden.
Work in TN26 follows the same survey, fixed-price quote and written records as everywhere else we cover. Aftercare tips
Aftercare is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
- Keep radiators clear
- Diary the next service
Now and then in cold weather, the outdoor unit defrosts itself. You might see steam or hear the unit change note, and that’s normal.
Let the heat pump run steadily rather than switching it on and off as explained at handover.
What a customer said
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
