Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Leeds
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. Common call-outs are for radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home, across underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.
Homes around Leeds usually have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.
The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

Do you need air source heat pumps in Leeds?
Extensions, renovations and loft conversions are a natural time to rethink the heating. Pipework, radiators and space for a cylinder are easier to plan while work is going on.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- Deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home
- Working out whether radiators need upsizing
- Checking eligibility for a heat pump grant
With Leeds Castle about 1 mile east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

How the visit works
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. We plan the trip to Leeds around you.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
Preparing for the visit
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Clear access to the fuse board
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Advice
FAQs for Leeds
Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Leeds?
It depends on the property. The Leeds Upper Street Conservation Area is close to the centre of Leeds. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Leeds, usually Maidstone council).
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Leeds?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Leeds, if they qualify. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes, always. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the job needs and how to do it and the fixed price is built on it.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
How soon will you get back to me?
You’ll hear from us the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.
What warranty do I get?
The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
What air conditioning won’t do
Air source heat pumps cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:
- Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf
- Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What the work covers
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Radiator systems
- Underfloor heating
- Hot water cylinders
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
Why act early in Leeds
For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. If that applies to you, it’s worth asking about sooner rather than later. A system that’s left with a fault, or without a service, normally costs more to run.
A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Homes in Leeds and heat pumps
About 47% of homes in and around Leeds have been built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and Census 2021 figures found about 72% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Live in one of the older houses around St Nicholas's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
