Air source heat pumps for Inhurst

Why deal with it now?

The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water heats radiators and hot water, and can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions. We explain which makes sense for you. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you’re not sure what’s needed, ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier for straight advice and a fixed price.

Air source heat pumps in Inhurst, done properly

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day, so the heat pump and the radiators or indoor units can be sized properly. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. Common call-outs are for comparing heat pump types and checking emitters for a heat pump, on radiator systems, air-to-air heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps.

Homes around Inhurst normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Inhurst questions

Will a heat pump in Inhurst need planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Historic England lists about 5 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Inhurst. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Basingstoke and Deane council, usually the authority for Inhurst first.

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Inhurst?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Inhurst is in England, where it applies. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.

How soon will you get back to me?

The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Do you work on all makes?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, normally whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

The process

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we’ve done. We plan the trip to Inhurst around you.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Homes in Inhurst and heat pumps

About 47% of homes in Inhurst and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and about 67% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

If your home is one of the older properties near Saint Mary's Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler.
