What a heat pump looks like in Brimpton Common

VOA council tax data date about 47% of homes in and around Brimpton Common to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 67% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Every heat pump design starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation. Period properties close to Church of St Nicholas can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Air source heat pumps in Brimpton Common, done properly

We install air source heat pumps in Brimpton Common and across West Berkshire, and we are MCS certified. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. If you’re dealing with working out whether radiators need upsizing and ageing boilers that will need replacing, we can sort it out.

If your home in or near Brimpton Common is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. That also helps where the warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. A few photos help us make the most of a visit to Brimpton Common.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you’re eligible for and the VAT explained.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Advice

Brimpton Common questions

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Brimpton Common?

Brimpton Common is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Brimpton Common?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Brimpton Common holds about 3 listed buildings and structures. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where necessary, we check with the local planning authority (for Brimpton Common, usually West Berkshire council).

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

When something else is needed

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

If you are not sure, just phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work

  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas

Before you call an engineer

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and phone 07833 053749.

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Leave it or put it right?

A sudden boiler failure rarely leaves room to plan a heat pump properly. Surveying and designing in advance means the system is sized right and any grant is applied for while the old heating still works. Small faults tend to grow, so it’s worth dealing with them early.

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed price.
