Air source heat pumps in Hook, done properly
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Hook and the rest of Hampshire. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We help you work out which suits your home. If you are dealing with comparing heat pump types and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, we can sort it out.
Cottages and older homes near Hook can lose heat faster, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Leave it or put it right?
Replacing a boiler in a hurry when it breaks leaves little time to consider a heat pump. Planning ahead gives time for the heat loss survey, the design and the grant application while the old heating still works. A system that is left with a fault, or without a service, normally costs more to run.
What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What else we do in Hook
The process
You do not need to do much on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we’ve done. Photos of the existing unit and its label help with repairs and servicing near Hook.
- Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
- The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
How to prepare
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board

Advice
Before you call an engineer
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
What a heat pump looks like in Hook
About 33% of homes across Hook and its surrounding area have been built since 2000, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 71% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
Stratfield Saye House lies about 4.8 miles north. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. Live in one of the older houses around St John the Evangelist? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

What air source heat pumps cannot fix
Air source heat pumps cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before any work starts. It won’t put right:
- Improving the building’s insulation
- Any gas work on the existing boiler
- Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf

Common questions in Hook
Is the heat pump grant available in Hook?
Hook is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Is a heat pump in Hook permitted development?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. Central Hook sits inside a conservation area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask Hart council, which is normally the planning authority for Hook.
Which type of heat pump is right for my home?
Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.
Will you make a mess?
Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, normally whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.
From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
