- Not knowing whether a grant applies
- Deciding on the outdoor unit position
Air source heat pumps in Hendon, done properly
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and hot water cylinders, and people most often call us about radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant.
Homes in Hendon are often flats and terraces, where outside space is limited, and that decides which kind of heat pump works. An air-to-water system needs space outside and typically a hot water cylinder inside, while air-to-air units take less room.
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What we do, step by step
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Photos of the room and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan most of a visit to Hendon in advance.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Other services in Hendon
For landlords and property managers
Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed-price quote.
When to call us in Hendon
Many people look at heat pumps when an oil, LPG or gas boiler is getting old. Starting early leaves time for the survey, the design and any grant application, rather than rushing a replacement in winter.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- An oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life
- Wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating
- No space for a hot water cylinder
With Heath Hall about 2.3 miles east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.
Comparing quotes
- The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
- Whether the quote is a fixed price
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
What the work involves, system by system
Radiators and underfloor heating
Underfloor heating works well with heat pumps because it uses lower temperatures and we look at it during the survey.
Hot water cylinders
Cylinder size is based on your household’s needs.
What a heat pump looks like in Hendon
About 45% of homes in Hendon and the neighbourhoods around it were built between the wars, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and about 59% of households live in flats, according to Census 2021 figures. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Flats are often harder for air-to-water systems, so we look at whether air-to-air suits better. In London, outside space and the rules for flats often decide which kind of heat pump suits.
If your home is near Hendon station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Hendon
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Hendon?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Hendon is in England, where it applies. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Can you fit air conditioning in a London flat in Hendon?
Typically, yes, though leaseholders normally need the freeholder’s agreement. We look at where the outdoor unit could go, such as a balcony, flat roof or rear wall, and write it up for the freeholder or agent.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.
Will you make a mess?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.
Do you work on all makes?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we will tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
