Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Gurnard
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Gurnard and the rest of the Isle of Wight. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We will explain which type fits your home and why. We’re often asked to deal with replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, on homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-air heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps.
If your home in or near Gurnard is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

The process
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Work in Gurnard is booked in advance at a time that suits you.
- First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
- The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
How to get a quote
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Safe owner checks
Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Gurnard: your questions answered
Will you come out to Gurnard?
Yes. Gurnard is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Gurnard?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Gurnard sits inside a conservation area. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with Isle of Wight council, which is normally the planning authority for Gurnard.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes, on every job. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
How much does an air source heat pump cost?
£8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) for air-to-water, before the grant. The final price depends on the heat loss survey, the radiators and the cylinder and the quote is fixed.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We’re also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
For landlords and property managers
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we’re happy to deal with whoever it is.
Whether it’s one property or many, the approach is the same: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.
What a heat pump looks like in Gurnard
At about 1 mile from the coast, Gurnard is close enough for sea air to matter. For a heat pump near the sea, ask about any coastal protection option the manufacturer offers. About 86% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
If your home is listed, like Osborne House about 2.3 miles east, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. Live in one of the older houses around All Saints' Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
Gurnard is about 1 mile west of Cowes, in the Isle of Wight. Whatever kind of property you have in Gurnard, we can help with air source heat pumps. You’ll hear back from us the same working day, and there’s a 24/7 emergency line. Count every place we list in the Isle of Wight and you reach 125, with Gurnard on the list. Worthing, roughly 41 miles off, has its own page on this site.
That includes properties on Cow Lane, The Avenue and Shore Road and the roads around them. Work in PO31 follows the same survey, fixed-price quote and written records as everywhere else we cover. We also cover the places around Gurnard: Cowes (1 mile east), Northwood (1 mile south), Rew Street (1 mile south-west), Great Thorness (2 miles south-west) and Noke Common (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Newport (4 miles south), Ryde (7 miles east), Sandown (10 miles south-east) and Shanklin (11 miles south-east). For island and remote properties, the visit takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

How the job changes from property to property
Outdoor unit position and planning
Flats and blocks of flats have different limits, and Article 4 directions can remove rights. Listed building consent is a separate matter and we check what applies to you.
Heat loss surveys
Without a proper survey, a heat pump can be too big or too small and that matters for comfort and running.
What a customer said
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
