Air source heat pumps in Brook, done properly
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. Air-to-air systems do not heat hot water, so you will need another way to do that. Common call-outs are for questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and checking emitters for a heat pump, across radiator systems, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.
For a home around Brook that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

How the visit works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Somewhere like Brook, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.
- You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
- We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- The system is installed and connected to the controls.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Before we arrive
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.
Advice
For landlords and property managers
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed-price quote.
We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings in Brook and across the Isle of Wight. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building to keep disruption down.
Different systems, different jobs
Outdoor unit position and planning
Flats and blocks of flats have different limits, and Article 4 directions can remove rights. Listed buildings also need separate consent and we check what applies to you.
Heat loss surveys
We look at walls, windows, floors, roofs and ventilation, and the size of each room.
Brook: your questions answered
Will you come out to Brook?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Does sea air affect air conditioning in Brook?
It can. Brook is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
That depends on the room’s heat loss and the radiator’s size. The survey compares each radiator with the room’s needs, so the quote covers any changes.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
Under HMRC Notice 708/6, a heat pump installed in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%. With air-to-air, HMRC’s view depends on the product, so we confirm the VAT on the quote.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.
After we have gone
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Keep the MCS certificate with the manufacturer’s paperwork
- Ask about the grant before you commit
We show you how to use the controls and explain how a heat pump works differently from a boiler. Heat pumps tend to work best running steadily rather than in short bursts so we set the controls up with you.
A well-insulated home helps a heat pump because it reduces the heat the system needs to supply.
What else we do in Brook
Heat pumps in Brook: local notes
Brook is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. VOA council tax data put about 35% of homes across Brook and its surrounding area before 1919, and the last census (2021) found about 87% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Period properties can still suit a heat pump, but the design has to start from accurate heat loss figures. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. The middle of Brook is part of a conservation area. Historic England lists about 8 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Brook, including The Rectory (grade II). That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where necessary, we check with Isle of Wight council, normally the planning authority here.
If your home is one of the older properties near St. Mary's Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. With Mottistone Manor about 1.1 miles east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.
