Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Bellingham
We install air source heat pumps in Bellingham and across Greater London, and we’re MCS certified. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. If you are dealing with not knowing whether a grant applies and working out where a cylinder could go, we can help.
A terrace in Bellingham shares walls with its neighbours, which helps keep heat in, as long as there’s a sensible spot for the outdoor unit and its noise is checked against the MCS planning standard.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

What air conditioning will not do
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we will tell you before any work starts. It does not solve:
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
- A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
- Any gas work on the existing boiler
If you’re not sure, just ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

How we price air source heat pumps
Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- How many units are involved
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.
What we need to know
When you contact us, it’s useful to have:
- A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
To help us quote: the address and the type of property, pictures of the rooms or units, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.
System by system
Air-to-water heat pumps
An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. A £7,500 grant may be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible homes and the installer applies.
Outdoor unit position and planning
Permitted development conditions in England include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), and use for more than cooling alone. Listed building curtilages are excluded.
Bellingham: your questions answered
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Bellingham?
Bellingham is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat in Bellingham?
In many cases, yes, once the lease and the building’s rules are checked. Permitted development rules for flats are tighter than for houses, so we check the outdoor unit position and give you the details to send to the freeholder or managing agent.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. It’s worth checking before you book and we’ll gladly show you ours.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?
Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. With air-to-air, hot water needs another source, and we explain which suits your home.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.
Air source heat pumps around Bellingham
VOA council tax data show about 55% of homes in Bellingham and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1919 to 1939. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. In London, outside space and the rules for flats often decide which kind of heat pump suits.
If your home is listed, like Kingswood House about 2.5 miles west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. For a home near Bellingham station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.

How it works
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. The visit takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. In a London area like Bellingham, parking and access are worth sorting out before the day.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Getting ready for the visit
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or send an email.
