Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Albourne

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Albourne and the rest of West Sussex. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. Typical jobs include checking emitters for a heat pump and choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air, on homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-water heat pumps and air-to-air heat pumps.

Homes around Albourne usually have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

Questions from Albourne

Do you cover smaller places like Albourne?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Albourne?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Albourne is in England, where it applies. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

That depends on the brand. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.

How long will it take to install a heat pump?

The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We confirm the timing after the survey, and you can ring us on 07833 053749 or email us to book it.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in Albourne and across West Sussex. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.

How the job changes from property to property

Radiators and underfloor heating

Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators may need to be larger, and the survey checks each one.

Outdoor unit position and planning

Where the outdoor unit goes depends on airflow, access and the route into the house. We also consider neighbours and noise, as MCS 020(a) includes a noise check.

What air source heat pumps can’t fix

Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Any gas work on the existing boiler

If you are not sure, just call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps

Before you call an engineer

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

Homes in Albourne and heat pumps

Albourne’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Albourne Conservation Area. The Rectory, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 23 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Albourne’s centre. For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (usually Mid Sussex council) where necessary. The 2021 Census found about 74% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler. Period properties close to The Parish Church of St Bartholomew can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

The process

The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. It takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system, and we tidy up before we leave. Visits to Albourne are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
