After we’ve gone
To keep the system working properly:
- Plan the air conditioning alongside the fit-out
- Don’t let servicing slip
- Keep a log for each system
We show your team how to use the controls so staff can set it up properly. Getting the settings right helps the system perform.
Make sure filters are maintained and outdoor units have space. Blocked filters and obstructed outdoor units make the system work harder.
How we handle commercial air conditioning in Old Town
We design, install and look after air conditioning for businesses in Old Town and across Greater London. Offices, shops, restaurants, hotels, schools and server rooms all come with different demands, and each one gets a system chosen for how the space is used. If the problem is comms rooms without enough cooling and installs that must fit around trading hours, we can help.
London buildings in Old Town can have little space for outdoor plant, so roofs, light wells and basements are common positions. VRF systems can serve many indoor units from a small number of outdoor units, which helps in dense areas.
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Some faults have simple causes you can check first: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and call us on 07833 053749 or email us.
What commercial work looks like in Old Town
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 268 restaurants, cafés and canteens, about 20 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses and about 42 schools and colleges in and around Old Town, up to about a mile and a half out. Many of those sites need air conditioning that is sized for long hours and maintained on a schedule. About 42% of homes in and around Old Town have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data, and about 76% of households live in flats, according to Census 2021 figures. In mixed streets, commercial outdoor units have to be placed and sized with the homes nearby in mind. In London, commercial installs often need landlord consent, agreed plant positions and out-of-hours working.
Schools such as The Minster Nursery and Infant School normally have the work done in the holidays, when classrooms are empty. If you run a surgery, clinic or pharmacy in the area around Croydon University Hospital, about 1.2 miles north, cleanable, quiet units and regular maintenance matter.
Old Town is about 1 mile north-west of Croydon, in Greater London. Whether you’re in the middle of Old Town or further out, our engineers cover commercial air conditioning, from small jobs to large ones. In Greater London alone we list 764 places, and Old Town is one.
Not far from Old Town, a recent job of ours was on George Street, Croydon (CR0), about 1 mile south-east: installing three Daikin cassette units in the main working area and a wall-mounted unit in the private meeting room.

Close to Old Town, our area also takes in Waddon (1 mile south-west), Broad Green (1 mile north), Beddington (1 mile west), Bandonhill (1 mile south-west) and Russell Hill (2 miles south-west). Larger places within reach include London (9 miles north), City of Westminster (10 miles north), Marylebone (10 miles north) and Kensington (10 miles north-west).

For a walk, there’s Roundshaw Downs and Duppas Hill.
Questions from Old Town
Can you do commercial air conditioning in Old Town?
Yes, Old Town is within the area we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat in Old Town?
Often, yes, but the lease and the freeholder usually have a say. Permitted development rules for flats are tighter than for houses, so we check the outdoor unit position and give you the details to send to the freeholder or managing agent.
Does my building need a TM44 inspection?
Where the air conditioning is over 12 kW, an inspection is needed at least every 5 years. An accredited energy assessor carries it out, and we can prepare the system and act on the report.
What types of commercial air conditioning do you install?
We install wall-mounted, cassette, ducted, multi-split and VRF systems. The right one depends on the building and how it’s used.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
How long will it take to install air conditioning in our building?
It takes a few days for a small shop or office, longer for VRF across several floors. The scale and programme decide most of it and the programme comes with your quote.
Do you work on all makes?
We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

What the work involves, system by system
VRF and VRV systems
Larger systems carry more refrigerant so leak checks and records often apply. We work out the tCO2e and set the check schedule.
Server and comms rooms
Planned maintenance is especially important for continuous cooling and we can cover it under a contract.
How it works
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your photos or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, the work takes a few days for a small shop or office, longer for VRF across several floors. Let us know who controls access to the building in Old Town, as that saves time on the day.
- We survey the site and talk through how each area is used.
- You get our recommendation and a fixed price.
- We agree the timing, with evening, weekend or phased work as needed.

- We commission the system and hand over the F-gas records and controls.
Preparing for the visit

- Clear access to the fuse board
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
