Air conditioning installation in Reigate
Reigate combines a historic market-town centre with leafy residential roads, larger family houses and good links to London and Gatwick. Many people work from home, and a hot study or bedroom is the most common reason they call us. We install, service and repair air conditioning across Reigate, Redhill and the surrounding area, from one wall-mounted unit to multi-split systems and commercial systems for offices, shops and restaurants.
We’re based in East Grinstead, West Sussex, and we work across Surrey, Reigate included. We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We fit leading brands such as Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba and Hitachi, and we explain the manufacturer’s warranty for your chosen unit on the quote.
Every job runs the same way. We look at the property on a site survey, or from photos for simpler jobs. You get a fixed-price quote. We install, repair or service the system. Then we commission it, record the refrigerant details for your F-Gas records and show you the controls. A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Our Reigate and Redhill cost guide explains what affects the price.
For existing systems, we repair all makes, with diagnosis from £75 + VAT, and an annual service is typically £95–£150 + VAT.
Thinking about heating too? An air-to-air heat pump can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only when it replaces your existing fossil-fuel heating, meets the home’s full heating demand and is fitted by an MCS-certified installer. It isn’t available for a unit added alongside a boiler. An air-to-water heat pump can qualify for £7,500. We’re MCS certified and apply for the grant on your behalf.
On VAT, HMRC’s Notice 708/6 zero-rates air source heat pumps installed in homes until 31 March 2027, and HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, though each case depends on the facts. We confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
Family houses, home offices and period homes
Reigate has a lot of larger family houses, from Victorian and Edwardian villas to interwar detached homes and newer houses on quieter roads. For these, a multi-split system is usually the best fit, cooling several bedrooms and a study from one outdoor unit. Three to five rooms is typically £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. On a bigger house with a usable loft, a ducted system can serve the upstairs rooms through small ceiling grilles, keeping the walls clear.
Where the outdoor unit goes matters as much as what it is. We look for a side or rear position that is out of sight from the road, has room to breathe and is easy to reach for servicing. We keep it away from neighbours’ bedroom windows and patios. Our guide to where to put the outdoor unit explains the trade-offs.
A home office needs its own thinking. Computers and screens add heat, and a small room with a big window can get uncomfortable quickly. A single wall-mounted split, sized properly, usually solves it. Our home office guide covers sizing and noise.
The town centre and its older streets include Georgian and Victorian buildings, some listed, many in the conservation area. There, appearance and consent come first, and we plan the most discreet route for pipework and the outdoor unit.
Most split systems heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. If you want to move off gas entirely, an air-to-water heat pump is the main option; heat pumps are £8,000–£16,000 at 0% VAT on homes, before the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
Garden rooms and outbuildings are popular here too, as offices, gyms or studios. A small split system suits them well, with the outdoor unit on the back wall. Our guide to garden rooms explains the power supply and positioning. Noise matters on quiet roads, so we use anti-vibration mounts and keep outdoor units away from neighbours’ windows.
A recent job in Reigate
Cockshot Hill, Reigate (RH2)
- Property
- A five-bedroom detached house.
- Work carried out
- Installation of a Mitsubishi Electric multi-split system serving four rooms: master bedroom, two further bedrooms and a home office. The home office installation was the primary driver, as the client worked from home full-time and found summer temperatures in the south-facing room unworkable. All four indoor units were connected to a single outdoor unit positioned in the side return.
- Outcome
- The client now uses the home office year-round in comfort. All four rooms are individually controlled via a smartphone app. The system’s heat pump function has reduced the household’s gas consumption measurably during the spring and autumn shoulder seasons.
Planning and the Reigate Conservation Area
Planning in the town is handled by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, whose planning pages cover applications, pre-application advice, conservation areas and guidance on renewable energy at home. The Reigate Conservation Area takes in the historic centre, including the High Street, Bell Street, West Street, London Road and Church Street, with Priory Park and the castle grounds. The council publishes conservation area character appraisals for areas across the borough.
For houses, an air source heat pump can be permitted development if it meets set limits. The Planning Portal’s heat pump guidance sets them out: an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), not used solely for cooling, not on a pitched roof, and in conservation areas, not on a wall or roof facing the road. Detached houses may have two, other houses one. Flats have tighter limits. A cooling-only air conditioning unit isn’t covered, so it needs the council’s view. Listed buildings need listed building consent as well.
For shops and offices in the centre, the landlord’s consent is usually needed too, and roof or rear-wall positions are often the only realistic ones. On the survey, we’ll tell you which route your job is likely to need and supply product data and drawings. The council and your landlord make the decisions; we start once consents are in place.
A new circuit is notifiable under Part P. As the Planning Portal explains, a registered competent person can self-certify it. We’re NICEIC approved, so we certify the work ourselves.
If you live in a flat, check your lease as well. Most leases need the landlord’s written consent before anything is fixed to the outside of the building.
Reigate and Redhill businesses
Reigate’s independent shops, restaurants, salons and professional offices, and the larger offices in nearby Redhill, all need comfortable rooms in summer. We install and maintain commercial air conditioning for them, from cassettes to VRF. See our pages on offices, restaurants and our guide to salons.
Business systems need leak checks above the F-gas thresholds, refrigerant records and, over 12 kW, TM44 inspections. A maintenance contract keeps it all on schedule.
Town centre shops and restaurants often sit in older buildings with flats above and little outside space. We look at roofs, rear yards and internal routes for pipework, and we plan deliveries and noisy work around trading hours where we can. For salons and clinics, we focus on quiet units, steady temperatures and clean filters. Older R410A systems can still be repaired legally; our repair or replace guide explains the choices.
For schools and nurseries, summer holidays are usually the best time to install, so it’s worth talking to us early in the year. Server and comms rooms in offices need cooling that runs all year round; our server room page explains how we approach them, including backup options where downtime isn’t acceptable.
Tell us how your premises are used through the day and the year, and we’ll design the system around it rather than guessing.
How it works
- Diagnose. We look at the rooms or building on a site survey, or from your photos for simple jobs, and work out what size and type of system it needs.
- Quote. You get a fixed-price quote with the make and model of every unit, the pipe runs, electrics and condensate route, and the VAT.
- Treat. An F-Gas certified engineer installs, repairs or services the system, with any new circuit done by our NICEIC approved electricians.
- Sign off. We commission and leak-test the system, keep the F-Gas records, explain the controls and go through the manufacturer’s warranty terms for your brand.

Questions from Reigate
Do you cover Reigate and Redhill?
Yes, along with Merstham, Earlswood and the surrounding villages. Send us your postcode.
Can I fit air conditioning in the Reigate Conservation Area?
Often, but outdoor units facing the road are restricted and cooling-only units need the council’s view. Listed buildings also need listed building consent.
What suits a large family house?
Usually a multi-split, or a ducted system if the loft allows. We size each room on the survey.
Can you hide the outdoor unit?
We look for a side or rear position out of sight from the road, with space for airflow and servicing.
What will it cost?
A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, supplied and fitted, with a fixed-price quote after the survey.
