About our air conditioning in Guestling

Any installation we do in Guestling follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Most enquiries from Guestling start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. That’s usually a single wall-mounted split, from £1,200 + VAT.

Around Guestling, many people choose a system that heats as well as cools, which suits rooms the main heating doesn’t reach well, such as a garden room or loft.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Outdoor unit positions

Noise is part of the decision: away from bedroom windows and neighbours’ windows where possible, and on anti-vibration mounts. Position can also affect planning.

Ducted systems

Ducted units can feed several rooms through a network of ducts, and they’re easiest to fit while ceilings are open, such as during a refurbishment.

Air conditioning in Guestling: local notes

At about 2 miles from the coast, Guestling is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so we site them out of the worst of the sea wind where we can, and can suggest models with corrosion-protected coils where the manufacturer offers them. Census 2021 figures found about 85% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. A side passage or back wall normally gives the outdoor unit a home, and more than one bedroom can be cooled through a multi-split.

A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Laurence's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Your questions about air conditioning in Guestling

Can I fit air conditioning in Guestling without planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The centre of Guestling is in a conservation area. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and isn’t used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask Rother council, which is typically the planning authority for Guestling.

Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Guestling?

It can. Guestling is within about 2 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are typically heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

How quickly will you reply?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. A fixed-price quote follows.

What affects the quote in Guestling

You’ll get a fixed price before work begins. It takes into account:

  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable
  • How easy the units are to reach

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

Before you get in touch

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Wide pictures of the room or the existing unit
  • The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
  • The make and model of the system, from the label

To help us quote: the address and the type of property, pictures of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, call 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Safe owner checks

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

What we do, step by step

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. After that, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. For a village like Guestling, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

How to get a quote

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
