Air conditioning in Bachelor's Bump, done properly

The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. Each room is assessed for its size, windows, direction and how it’s used, and we agree the unit positions and the route for the pipes, cable and drain before you get a fixed-price quote. Whether you call it air con, air conditioning or an air-to-air heat pump, it’s the job we do every week across East Sussex.

The electrics are part of the job: a dedicated circuit where the unit needs one, certified under NICEIC, so the electrical paperwork comes with the installation.

Homes around Bachelor's Bump normally have room outside for an outdoor unit. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Questions from Bachelor's Bump

Is Bachelor's Bump within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Is air conditioning in Bachelor's Bump permitted development?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Bachelor's Bump holds about 3 listed buildings and structures. A system that heats as well as cools may not need an application on a house, provided it stays within the permitted development limits. Cooling-only units get no such allowance, and listed buildings and road-facing positions in conservation areas need more care. We speak to Hastings council, which is typically the planning authority for Bachelor's Bump when it matters.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

From £1,200 + VAT for a single-room split, with a typical range of £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from photos.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-split, ducted and cassette systems take longer, and we tell you how long on the quote.

Are you F-Gas certified?

As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

What air conditioning won’t do

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council

If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Ducted systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Multi-split systems
  • VRF systems

What affects the cost of air conditioning

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • What kind of system it is
  • What electrical work the job needs
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders

The cost depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, how easy the units are to reach and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Before you get in touch

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
  • Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it

Need a price for air conditioning? Please give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d recommend and why, then send a fixed-price quote before anything is booked.

How it works

Each visit follows the same order: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Bachelor's Bump so we arrive with what’s needed.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

Getting a quote

To help us quote: the address and the type of property, a few pictures, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Then call us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Advice

Why act early in Bachelor's Bump

Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can typically heat as well, so it earns its keep all year. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered and we will price it together.

Why book with us

  • MCS certification for heat pump work
  • Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
  • Members of Checkatrade
  • An F-Gas certified company, as the law requires

Air conditioning around Bachelor's Bump

Bachelor's Bump lies within about 2 miles of the sea. Near the sea, outdoor unit position matters more: sheltered from salt-laden wind where possible, on fixings that won’t rust. Census 2021 figures found about 37% of households in terraced houses. Terraces have little side access, so the outdoor unit typically goes on the rear wall or a flat roof, with the pipe run kept short.

Living close to Christ Apostolic Church Hastings? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are normally the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start.
