Homes in Hastings and air conditioning
Hastings is within about 2 miles of the coast. That is worth knowing for an install, as salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor coils and fixings, so we choose the position and fixings with that in mind. Draw a one-mile circle round the middle of Hastings and it takes in 7 conservation areas. None of this rules air conditioning out. It just means the planning position is checked before anyone suggests a spot for the outdoor unit.
Older streets near St Luke's Church may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. If you commute from St Leonards Warrior Square station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.
Hastings is in East Sussex. Whether you’re in the middle of Hastings or further out, our engineers cover air conditioning, from small jobs to large ones. Across East Sussex, we cover 289 places, and Hastings is one of them. For properties nearby, see our Eastbourne page (13 miles or so).
Recent work in Hastings
Old London Road, Hastings (TN35)
- Property
- A converted Victorian pub now operating as a creative workspace.
- Work carried out
- Installation of three Samsung cassette units in the main co-working hall and a wall-mounted unit in the meeting room. The high ceilings of the original pub interior: approximately 4.5 metres: required a ceiling cassette approach to distribute air effectively across the large floor area.
- Outcome
- The workspace operator reported that summer occupancy had increased following installation, with several new members specifically citing the air conditioning as a reason for choosing the space over competitors.

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Send a few photos of the rooms and the outside walls when you ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk, and we will reply the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. Most split systems we fit in Hastings are reversible: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.
Planning permission isn’t typically needed for a house if the unit qualifies as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats often need consent first: we tell you at the survey if it applies.
In Hastings, a flat above the shops and a semi on the edge of town are very different installs. Flats bring leases, freeholders and limited outside space, while houses tend to have a side or back wall with room for it.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

How we price air conditioning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- The brand, model and parts involved
- What electrical work the job needs
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.
What to send for a quote
Simple jobs can often be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- Wide pictures of the room or the existing unit
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
FAQs for Hastings
Do you cover Hastings for air conditioning?
Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Hastings is part of that. To start, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few photos.
Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Hastings?
It can, as Hastings is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. You get a written record of every visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. We always look before we price, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
How soon will you get back to me?
You’ll hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
How it works
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your pictures or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. In the busier parts of Hastings, parking near the property is worth planning.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
- The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
- The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property

Quotes do not take long. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Leave it or put it right?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.
Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all play a part.
