Air conditioning servicing near Portchester

Air conditioning servicing for homes and businesses in Portchester

Air conditioning pulls room air through a filter and across a cold coil many times an hour. Dust, fluff and anything else in the air ends up on those parts. A service clears it away, letting air pass through the unit properly and the condensate drain away. If you’re dealing with a service that’s overdue and F-gas leak checks falling due, we can help.

A yearly service suits most systems around Portchester, and some manufacturers’ warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

What air conditioning will not do

Air conditioning servicing cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It does not solve:

  • A refrigerant leak, which needs finding and repairing, not topping up
  • Poor original installation, such as drains without a proper fall
  • Heat gains the system was never sized for

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Ducted systems
  • VRF systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Wall-mounted split systems

What we do, step by step

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes anything from an hour for a simple split system to most of a day for a larger installation. We load the van from the survey notes so the work in Portchester can be done in one go where possible.

  1. You tell us the brand, the number of indoor units and any symptoms.
  2. Each indoor unit has its covers lifted so the filters, coil and tray can be cleaned.
  3. The outdoor unit is cleaned and checked, and debris cleared from around it.
  4. Electrical connections, controls and refrigerant performance are tested.
  5. Anything we find is explained, with a fixed price if it needs a repair.

Questions from Portchester

Does sea air affect air conditioning in Portchester?

It can, as Portchester is within about 1 mile of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. Regular servicing, with the outdoor coil cleaned and checked, helps a coastal system last.

How often do you service systems in Portchester?

Once a year suits most home systems. Some manufacturers’ warranty terms ask for regular servicing, so it’s worth keeping the records.

Does my air conditioning need an F-gas leak check?

The rules are based on tCO2e, which comes from the refrigerant charge and its GWP. From 5 to under 50 tCO2e, leak checks are required at least every 12 months, and from 50 to under 500 tCO2e every 6 months. Hermetically sealed systems holding less than 10 tCO2e do not need them.

Can I have a maintenance contract for my air conditioning?

We do, for one unit at home or many across a site. The visits, what each covers and the price are agreed with your quote and the servicing happens on time.

Is a regas part of an air conditioning service?

The service checks how the refrigerant circuit is performing, but doesn’t include adding gas. If it’s low, a leak repair comes first and the regas follows with a fixed price for each step.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size in Portchester and across Hampshire. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.

Maintenance contracts

With a contract, the number of visits, the scope and the cost are agreed in writing, fixed with your quote. It suits homes and businesses alike.

Fans and electrics

Electrical connections are checked for tightness and signs of overheating. A loose terminal can be the cause of an intermittent fault, so this matters.

What a service looks like in Portchester

Portchester lies within about 1 mile of the sea. A yearly service matters more near the coast, where salt speeds up corrosion on coils and fixings. Portchester’s centre falls inside the Portchester (Castle Street) Conservation Area. Church of St Mary, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 54 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Portchester’s centre. That only matters for replacements, where a new outdoor unit on a protected building can need consent. About 34% of homes in Portchester and the neighbourhoods around it were built between the wars, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records. Access to the outdoor unit is the one detail that most changes how a visit is planned.

If you run premises near Portchester station, ask about servicing several units in one visit. Schools such as Castle Primary School can book servicing for half term or the summer break, when rooms are empty.

What affects the cost of air conditioning servicing

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
  • The size of the job
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable

Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
  • Your installation or service records
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
