Air conditioning in WD99: how it works

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just call 07833 053749 or use the quote form with pictures of the rooms and the outside of the property, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day to arrange a survey or a quote. The work covers ceiling cassettes, multi-split systems and ducted systems, and people most often call us about an old system that needs replacing and portable units that are noisy and barely cope.

The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we clear up before we go.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

Getting a price

Want a quote for air conditioning? Please phone us on 07833 053749 and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d recommend and why, then send a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.

Near you in Holywell

Typical jobs here are in properties near King George V Playing Fields, The Red House and St Oswald's Parish Church. You’ll also find Croxley Danes School (0.6 miles north-west) and Westfield Academy (within half a mile east). For rail, the closest station is Watford High Street station, about 1.4 miles east. A little further out are Hertfordshire Fire Brigade Museum (1.5 miles east) and Watford General Hospital (0.9 miles east). For a walk, there’s Tumbling Bay and Chorleywood Common.

Air conditioning around WD99

From Holywell outwards, WD99 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. We’re F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps.

Holywell: Living close to St Oswald's Parish Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. With historic houses such as High Elms Manor about 4.1 miles north, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

What happens if it’s left?

Size matters more than brand. Too small, and it runs flat out without catching up; an oversized one cycles on and off and wastes energy. Sizing each room properly on the survey avoids both.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Whether the quote is a fixed price
  • Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why

What affects the quote in WD99

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but every job is priced on its own. What we look at:

  • Whether the existing supply is suitable
  • How easy the units are to reach
  • The pipe route between the units
  • The condition of any existing system

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What to send for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. Just send:

  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business

Quotes don’t take long. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits you.

What the work involves, system by system

Ceiling cassettes

Cassettes need space above the ceiling and a route for the condensate, with a condensate pump where the drain can’t fall naturally. We check the ceiling void on the survey.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Offices and shops usually need several units and sensible central controls. We size for the people, equipment and glazing in the space, and plan the work so the business keeps running.

Honest limits

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Draughts and missing insulation
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)

Common questions in WD99

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. You will normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route and the lease will say. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

Will I need planning permission?

Not necessarily. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Permission is more likely to come up for cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing positions in conservation areas, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we’ll agree what happens next.
