Air conditioning in PO3: how it works
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi are among the brands we fit. We recommend a model on the survey and explain why it suits the room, and the manufacturer’s warranty terms are set out on your quote. We are often asked to deal with portable units that are noisy and barely cope and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, across VRF systems, ducted systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
Each visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we’ve done and talk you through it. On site, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
- You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
- On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
- Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
How we quote
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are not sure what’s needed, ring 07833 053749 or send an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Landmarks near Baffins
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around The Baffins pub, St Edmund's Catholic School and Miltoncross Academy, among other places. Other local landmarks include Church of St Cuthbert (under half a mile west), Langstone Junior Academy (under half a mile south) and Alexandra Park (1.7 miles north-west). The nearest railway station is Fratton station, about 1 mile south-west of the centre. A little further out are The Bridge Shopping Centre (1.1 miles south-west) and Southsea Castle (2.4 miles south-west). Not far away are Portsdown Hill and Milton Locks.
Where we install in PO3
Our air conditioning work across PO3 takes in places such as Milton, Hilsea and Baffins and the smaller places around them. Every place on our PO3 list (7 in all) is covered.
We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, PO3 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote. Parts of PO3 are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on outdoor units. We choose positions and fixings with that in mind.
Baffins: Living close to Church of St Cuthbert? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Warblington Castle, about 4.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
Looking after your system
Systems last better with the right care. We suggest:
- Never run the system with the filters out
- Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
- Keep the room closed while it runs
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
You get the paperwork that matters: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. Keep them with the manual, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.
Common problems we fix in PO3
Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, which is why a loft bedroom can still be warm at bedtime.
Common reasons people call us are:
- A system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement
- An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
- Expensive direct electric heating
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
Honest limits
Air conditioning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Central heating repairs
- An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
- Building damp that has a structural cause
What happens if it’s left?
For homeowners, timing can matter for VAT: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts and we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
Questions to ask before booking
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
Common questions in PO3
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
How do you size the system?
It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it, and we take them all into account on the survey.
How much is air conditioning for one room?
From £1,200 + VAT for a single-room split, with a typical range of £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and we fix it after a survey or from your photos.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
