Air source heat pumps in Worth
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. This is HMRC’s energy-saving materials relief, which applies to homes rather than businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. Typical jobs include checking emitters for a heat pump and plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump, across underfloor heating, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and air-to-air heat pumps.
Homes around Worth normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder, so the main questions are heat loss, radiators and the electrics.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

When something else is needed
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
If in doubt, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Hot water cylinders
- Underfloor heating
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Radiator systems
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
What happens on the day
Think of the visit in three stages: diagnose, treat and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We load the van from the survey notes so the work in Worth can be done in one go where possible.
- You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
- We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know where we can park and unload
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board

Advice
Looking after it afterwards
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
- Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
- Use the settings explained at handover
Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. File it with the warranty documents, as you may need it later.
Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and stored items. Airflow is what it runs on, so keep it clear all year.

It’s time to call us if you are dealing with:
- Checking eligibility for a heat pump grant

- Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air
For a home near Three Bridges station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.
What your quote should include
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
- What’s in the price and what isn’t

FAQs for Worth
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Worth?
Worth is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Worth?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Worth is a short walk from the Worth Conservation Area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Worth, typically Crawley council).
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. Each visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
