Signs you need air source heat pumps in World's End

Many enquiries start with a question about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Whether you can get the grant depends on your home and the scheme conditions, so we check before you commit.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Planning and permitted development questions
  • Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air
  • Questions about where the outdoor unit can go

Older homes near St Andrew's Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

Choosing an air con installer

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in World's End

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in World's End and the rest of West Sussex. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We will explain which type fits your home and why. Typical jobs include radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, on air-to-air heat pumps, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.

Whether a home near World's End has mains gas makes a difference to the grant. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Looking after a system is mostly common sense: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Formal advice on VAT for your situation
  • Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

How it works

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can typically work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We plan the visit to World's End from the survey or your photos.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Getting a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from photos and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price before any work starts.

Advice

What a heat pump looks like in World's End

The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 31% of homes in and around World's End were built in 2000 or later, and Census 2021 figures found about 67% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder. There are 2 conservation areas within a mile of the centre of World's End. Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the planning team at Mid Sussex council, which normally handles World's End before the heat pump design is finished.

If your home is near Wivelsfield station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.

Not far from World's End, a recent job of ours was on Cyprus Road, Burgess Hill (RH15), about 1 mile south-west: installing a Samsung wall-mounted split system in the treatment area and a second smaller unit in the nail bar section.

How we price air source heat pumps

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
  • What kind of system it is
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle

The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and the parts and time the job needs. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Before you get in touch

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Questions from World's End

Do you cover smaller places like World's End?

Yes. World's End is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Is the heat pump grant available in World's End?

World's End is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?

That depends on your home and the unit’s position. Flats have tighter limits, conservation areas add conditions, and Article 4 directions can remove rights and we look at it during the survey.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

As a guide, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

Expect £8,000–£16,000 for an air-to-water system, with 0% VAT on homes, before the grant is taken off. Where you land depends on the size of heat pump, any radiators that need changing and the hot water cylinder, and air-to-air systems are priced after a survey.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
