Air source heat pumps in Three Ashes

Air source heat pumps in Three Ashes, done properly

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home; adding it alongside a boiler does not qualify. We’re often asked to deal with wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating and an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life, on underfloor heating, air-to-water heat pumps and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.

If your home in or near Three Ashes is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler, so keep it safe.

Three Ashes questions

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Three Ashes?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Central Three Ashes is a short walk from the Silchester Conservation Area. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Basingstoke and Deane council, typically the authority for Three Ashes.

Do you cover smaller places like Three Ashes?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before booking anyone and we’ll gladly show you ours.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

Are you F-Gas certified?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Planning approval where permitted development does not apply
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give

Not sure which it is? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas

How we price air source heat pumps

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable

What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, how easy the units are to reach and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light

For air source heat pumps in Three Ashes, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or drop us a line. Tell us what kind of property it is and what you’d like done, and send a few photos if you can. We reply the same working day.

What a heat pump looks like in Three Ashes

The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 40% of homes in and around Three Ashes were built in 2000 or later, and the last census (2021) found about 75% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes usually lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

The Vyne lies about 2.8 miles south. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. Period properties close to Church of St. Mary can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

What happens on the day

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. After that, it takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Three Ashes easier.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Book a yearly service

Now and then in cold weather, the outdoor unit defrosts itself. It may give off steam or sound different for a few minutes and it’s part of how the system works.

Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
