Air source heat pumps in Cufaude
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. This is HMRC’s energy-saving materials relief, which applies to homes rather than businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. The work covers hot water cylinders, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and air-to-water heat pumps, and people most often call us about questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and questions about where the outdoor unit can go.
Homes around Cufaude normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Cufaude questions
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Cufaude?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Cufaude, if they qualify. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Is a heat pump in Cufaude permitted development?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Around 11 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Cufaude. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t face a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Basingstoke and Deane council, usually the authority for Cufaude.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. It’s worth checking before booking and we’ll gladly show you ours.
Which brands do you work with?
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
What warranty do I get?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.
Heat pumps in Cufaude: local notes
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 40% of homes in the Cufaude area were built in 2000 or later, and about 75% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Period properties close to The Vyne Chapel can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. Historic houses such as The Vyne, about 0.9 miles west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.

What happens on the day
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Cufaude so we arrive with what’s needed.
- You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- The system is installed and connected to the controls.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
Ask for a quote
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us.

Why deal with it now?
The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water works with radiators and a cylinder, with a £7,500 grant for eligible homes, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms and has a £2,500 grant only in limited cases, and we explain which fits your home. An early booking makes the visit to Cufaude easier to arrange.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

After we’ve gone
Looking after it is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Find out the grant position at the survey
- Use the settings explained at handover
If anything does not seem right after installation, ring us on 07833 053749 and we’ll look into it. A yearly service is a good habit.
Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.
A customer’s words
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
