Air source heat pumps for The Stocks

Air source heat pumps in The Stocks, done properly

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. The work covers homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating, and people most often call us about checking whether planning permission is needed and deciding on the outdoor unit position.

Homes around The Stocks typically have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

What a heat pump looks like in The Stocks

The 2021 Census found about 81% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Smallhythe Place lies about 2 miles north-west. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. If your home is one of the older properties near Parish Church of St John the Baptist, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

The Stocks is about 11 miles south-west of Ashford, in Kent. Properties in The Stocks get the same service as everywhere we cover: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we have finished. In Kent alone we list 922 places and The Stocks is among them. Eastbourne, roughly 25 miles off, has its own page on this site.

Not far from The Stocks, a recent job of ours was on Mermaid Street, Rye (TN31), about 4 miles south: installing three Fujitsu wall-mounted units in guest bedrooms, with the outdoor units positioned in the hotel’s walled rear garden.

If your postcode is in TN30, the property is within reach. If you need air source heat pumps at a property on Stocks Road, Budd's Lane and Wittersham Road or a nearby road, our engineers can take on the work. Neighbouring places we cover include Acton (1 mile north), Wittersham (1 mile west), Stone Corner (1 mile north), Stone in Oxney (2 miles east) and Reading Street (2 miles north-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Ashford (11 miles north-east), Tenterden (4 miles north), Kennington (13 miles north-east) and New Romney (10 miles east).

How it works

The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. It takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved, and we clear up before we go. Work in The Stocks is booked in advance at a time that suits you.

  1. It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

What the work involves, system by system

Air-to-water heat pumps

An air-to-water heat pump heats water for your radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder. It replaces the boiler as the main heat source and we install it to MCS standards.

VAT on heat pumps

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%, under HMRC Notice 708/6. It doesn’t apply to businesses.

Honest limits

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Formal advice on VAT for your situation
  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades

Managing agents and facilities teams in The Stocks

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.

FAQs for The Stocks

Do you cover smaller places like The Stocks?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in The Stocks?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. Central The Stocks sits inside a conservation area. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Ashford council, normally the authority for The Stocks first.

What’s the price of a heat pump installation?

An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 to eligible homes in England and Wales, and we confirm eligibility before you commit.

Does the grant cover air-to-air heat pumps?

Sometimes, and the amount is £2,500 rather than £7,500. It must replace fossil-fuel heating and meet the full heating demand of a home with an MCS certified installer.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

A typical installation takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
