Need air source heat pumps in The Hummicks?

Air source heat pumps in The Hummicks

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. If the problem is checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, we can help.

In a place like The Hummicks, some homes are listed, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

What we do, step by step

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to The Hummicks.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

Common questions in The Hummicks

Does sea air affect air conditioning in The Hummicks?

It can. The Hummicks is within about 2 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

Can I fit a heat pump in The Hummicks without planning permission?

It depends on the property. Central The Hummicks is a short walk from the Beaulieu Conservation Area. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for The Hummicks, usually New Forest council) first.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

Air-to-water systems are £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before any grant. Your price depends on the survey, the emitters and the hot water, and you get a fixed-price quote.

Is The Hummicks in your area?

Yes. We work in The Hummicks and across Hampshire, within the London and South East area we cover. For a fixed-price quote, ring us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for problems that cannot wait for a planned visit. Call 07833 053749 and tell us what’s happened.

How the job changes from property to property

Air-to-air heat pumps

A £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is available for air-to-air only if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the full heating demand. It must be installed by an MCS certified installer and be in a home.

Air-to-water heat pumps

An air-to-water heat pump heats water for your radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder. It replaces the boiler as the main heat source, and is MCS certified when we install it.

Heat pumps in The Hummicks: local notes

The coast is only about 2 miles from The Hummicks. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. About 50% of homes in the The Hummicks area date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and the last census (2021) found about 68% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Homes of that age often have cavity walls that may or may not be insulated, which the survey checks. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of the Blessed Virgin and Child, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Beaulieu Palace House lies about 0.9 miles north-west. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Book a yearly service
  • Keep up with insulation and draught-proofing
  • Ask about the grant before you commit

Handover includes the controls and how to get the best from a heat pump. Steady running suits a heat pump better than switching on and off, and we’ll explain the settings for your home.

Heat pumps prefer steady, low-temperature running as explained at handover.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

What a customer said

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
