Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Beaulieu

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. The work covers radiator systems, hot water cylinders and air-to-water heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home and checking emitters for a heat pump.

If your home in or near Beaulieu is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. File it with the manual, because it helps with any later warranty question.

How the visit works

Protection comes first: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work, and we ask before moving anything. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. The work on site takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved, and we clear up before we go. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to Beaulieu.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
  3. We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work

Getting a quote

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Pricing air source heat pumps in Beaulieu

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
  • How easy the units are to reach

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed-price quote, call 07833 053749 or email us, and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • The fuse board and where it is in the property
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Air source heat pumps around Beaulieu

Beaulieu lies within about 3 miles of the sea. For a heat pump near the sea, ask about any coastal protection option the manufacturer offers. Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 50% of homes in Beaulieu and the neighbourhoods around it to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and Census 2021 figures found about 68% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. The middle of Beaulieu is part of the Beaulieu Conservation Area. About 53 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Beaulieu, Palace House (grade I) among them. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?

Older homes near Church of the Blessed Virgin and Child may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

FAQs for Beaulieu

Is Beaulieu within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Does sea air affect air conditioning in Beaulieu?

It can. Beaulieu is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. Air-to-air does not heat hot water and the survey helps decide.

Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?

It depends on the property and where the unit goes. Flats have tighter limits, conservation areas add conditions, and Article 4 directions can remove rights and we look at it during the survey.

Can I get a grant for an air-to-air heat pump?

A £2,500 grant is available in some cases. It won’t apply if the system is an add-on next to a boiler as it has to meet the full heating demand.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

What we are called out for in Beaulieu

An ageing boiler is often the moment people start thinking about a heat pump. Planning the change before the boiler fails gives you time to survey, design and apply for any grant, rather than rushing a replacement in winter.

If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Working out where a cylinder could go
  • Questions about listed buildings or conservation areas
  • A boiler that is getting old

With Beaulieu Palace House about 0.1 miles north, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • If the figure could change on the day
  • What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
