Need air source heat pumps in Sunningdale?

Sunningdale questions

Is the heat pump grant available in Sunningdale?

Sunningdale is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Sunningdale?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Sunningdale sits inside a conservation area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Sunningdale, typically Windsor and Maidenhead council).

How quickly will you reply?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

How long will it take to install a heat pump?

A typical installation takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before any work starts.

Air source heat pumps in Sunningdale, done properly

In England, an air source heat pump on a house can often go in under permitted development rights. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. If the problem is moving away from fossil-fuel heating and planning and permitted development questions, we can sort it out.

Whether a home near Sunningdale has mains gas makes a difference to the grant. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we will tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:

  • Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
  • Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances

If you’re not sure, just call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

System by system

Air-to-water heat pumps

The price for air-to-water is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. A £7,500 grant may be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible homes, and we apply for it as the installer.

Outdoor unit position and planning

Flats and blocks of flats have different limits, and Article 4 directions can remove rights. Listed buildings also need separate consent, and we check the position for your property.

After we have gone

After the visit, a few habits help:

  • Do not block radiators or indoor units with furniture
  • Ask about the grant before you commit
  • File the MCS certificate safely

Now and then in cold weather, the outdoor unit defrosts itself. You might see steam or hear the unit change note and it’s part of how the system works.

Keep radiators and indoor units unobstructed so the heat can get into the room.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Visits to a place like Sunningdale are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the job needs.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
  5. We install, commission and register the system under MCS.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need

Advice

Homes in Sunningdale and heat pumps

About 30% of homes across Sunningdale and its surrounding area have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data, and about 66% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

St Leonard's Hill lies about 4.8 miles north. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. If your home is near Sunningdale station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.
