Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Stalisfield

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If the problem is a boiler that’s getting old and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, we can sort it out.

If your home in or near Stalisfield is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Common questions in Stalisfield

Is a heat pump in Stalisfield permitted development?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Stalisfield holds about 12 listed buildings and structures. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Swale council, usually the authority for Stalisfield first.

Will you come out to Stalisfield?

Yes. Stalisfield is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.

When will I hear back?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

The process

Think of the visit in three stages: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. If a lane or gateway near Stalisfield is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

Advice

Before you call an engineer

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

People also ask about air-to-air heat pumps because they heat and cool. They heat rooms through wall, floor or ceiling units and switch to cooling in warm weather. The grant only applies in some cases, so we check first.

It’s time to call us if you’re dealing with:

  • Checking emitters for a heat pump
  • A boiler that’s getting old
  • Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air

Period properties close to Church of St Mary can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
  • Whether extra work needs your approval first
  • Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
