How we handle air source heat pumps in Shalden
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Shalden and the rest of Hampshire. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We will explain which type fits your home and why. If the problem is checking emitters for a heat pump and questions about where the outdoor unit can go, we can help.
If your home in or near Shalden is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

What happens on the day
Think of the visit in three stages: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, and that takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Shalden easier.
- It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Preparing for the visit
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
Getting a price
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Related advice
What affects the quote in Shalden
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
- The equipment or parts the job needs
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.
What to send for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- Your installation or service records
- A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we will come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
Air source heat pumps in Shalden: the local picture
Shalden’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Shalden Conservation Area. About 11 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Shalden, Manor Farmhouse (grade II*) among them. For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (typically Basingstoke and Deane council) where necessary. Shalden is about 45 miles from central London, well within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead.
If your home is listed, like Hall Place about 2.5 miles south-west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. Period properties close to Church of St Peter and St Paul can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.
Shalden is about 2 miles north-west of Alton, in Hampshire. Our engineers cover Shalden for air source heat pumps and across the rest of Hampshire. Our list for Hampshire has 683 entries and Shalden is among them. We also work in Guildford, around 19 miles away.
Not far from Shalden, a recent job of ours was on Castle Street, Farnham (GU9), about 9 miles east: installing a Fujitsu multi-split system serving three offices and a client meeting room.
Southwood Road, Stancombe Lane and Shalden Lane and the roads off them are all inside our area. Work in GU34 follows the same survey, fixed-price quote and written records as everywhere else we cover. Close to Shalden, our area also takes in Shalden Green (1 mile north), Thedden (2 miles south-west), Beech (2 miles south), Bentworth (2 miles south-west) and Southrope (2 miles north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Basingstoke (8 miles north-west), Farnborough (13 miles north-east), Fleet (10 miles north-east) and Aldershot (12 miles north-east).

Heat loss surveys
A heat loss survey measures how much heat each room loses on a cold day. It’s the basis for sizing the heat pump and the radiators.
Shalden questions
Is the heat pump grant available in Shalden?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Shalden is in England, where it applies. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Will you come out to Shalden?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Which brands do you work with?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them and stick to the interval they set.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from photos and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
After we’ve gone
So the system stays in good health:
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together
- Look at insulation alongside the heat pump
Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. File it with the warranty documents for future reference.
Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and stored items. It needs good airflow to collect heat from outside, so keep it clear all year.

From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
