About our air source heat pumps in Marden

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. If the problem is radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and no space for a hot water cylinder, we can help.

Whether a home near Marden has mains gas makes a difference to the grant. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, for an air source or ground source heat pump.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

What we do, step by step

Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Send pictures of the space and the outside wall, and we can plan the work near Marden.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

What the work involves, system by system

Hot water cylinders

An older cylinder may not suit a heat pump and we tell you if it needs replacing.

Radiators and underfloor heating

Underfloor heating suits a heat pump’s lower flow temperature and we look at it during the survey.

Homes in Marden and heat pumps

VOA council tax data put about 36% of homes in Marden and the neighbourhoods around it before 1919, and the last census (2021) found about 71% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. In older homes, the heat loss calculation is especially important, as solid walls and draughts change the size of heat pump needed. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Older homes near St Michael and All Angels Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. If your home is near Marden station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.

When it’s something else

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Radiator systems
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.

Marden: your questions answered

Is Marden within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Can I fit a heat pump in Marden without planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. There’s a conservation area, the Marden Conservation Area, close to central Marden. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Maidstone council, usually the authority for Marden first.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

How much VAT is charged on a heat pump in a home?

Heat pumps in homes carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, with 5% from 1 April 2027. Businesses pay the standard rate. This is general information, not tax advice.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

The work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. The survey lets us set a firm programme, and you can call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form to book it.
